People who make these very insecure IoT devices should be eligible to be sued by the likes of Cloudflare. The damage the cause is massive
What I don't understand is why can't internet companies give you non-crap software that shows data usage. Hey, your smart coffee pot has used 15 tb of data this month, would you like to restrict the traffic?
All of this AI and IoT slop and not one company can get it right.
They should be subject to class action lawsuit by consumers which forces them to either agree to something reasonable like a 20+ year upgrade commitment (I don't know about you but I don't replace all of the light switches in my house every 3 years), or a commitment to open sourcing the firmware so it can be updated by the community once abandoned.
Class action is not the vehicle here because it's both too hard to prove actual damages and the plaintiffs reward is usually pitiful. There needs to be legislation like the GDPR where you can file a complaint and then sue the company very easily for violation
